Dreams, Mail, and Phone Calls

Christina sat in a classroom…at least that’s what she thought it was. There were two chandeliers, one on each side of the room, and only two other girls with her- they were Lisa and Jessica. Before them stood the Time Guardian…only…she was different. She had no staff, but a paper she was reading from. She wore a long, pine green silk dress, the same kind as Lisa, Jessica, and her. Lisa’s was blue, Jessica’s, black, and Christina’s, lavender.

"Lisa dear, you are being addressed." The goddess-like Lisa turned her head to face the teacher.

"Princess Pluto, forgive me."

"Now, as I was saying, the Prince of the Universe is coming to our very galaxy to a number of parties held by Queen Serenity." She smiled.

Christina’s eyes brightened, then faded. "Wow…but…who is he?"

"Forgive me, Princess Unity. I should have explained the outside galaxy’s social status to you sooner…The Universe Prince is the heir to govern our universe. He’s even higher than Queen Serenity. He has a younger brother who is the ambassador of their home planet. The prince rarely comes to the Milky Way, I wanted you to know that it is a treat."

Christina awoke with a start. She closed her eyes and replayed the image. ‘No! I’m not a princess; we’re not princesses! What are these terrible dreams? They aren’t true! Never!’

She leapt out of bed and began to get dressed for school when she remembered it was Sunday. "I just haven’t been the same since I became a Sailor Solider…" She sighed. Her life had really turned around. She noticed the clock read 12:00 p.m. "I even slept in late…ugh."

She bounded downstairs and found that her mother had already left for work. "She just has to work on my day off…Always. Why don’t they just give her more time during the week? It’s not like she’s underpaid or anything."

Christina grabbed a couple pieces of bread and slapped together a sandwich, which she began chewing on her way out the door. She walked past her mailbox and saw a letter sticking out. Blinking curiously, she pulled it out.

"Tokuga-" She was cut off by her own excitement and opened it.

Student,

You have passed the entrance exam to Tokugawa High School with a score of 89%, three percent over a passing grade. We welcome you to our Open House for freshmen next Saturday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thank you, and have a nice day.

Christina whooped with joy, not caring about the people who stopped across the street and stared. She ran inside to call Jessica.

The phone rang, and what seemed like an eternity later, it stopped.

"Hello?"

"Jessica? It’s Christina!"

"Oh. Hi."

"Have you gotten a response from Tokugawa yet?"
"Yeah, I haven’t opened it. Hold on." In the silence that followed, Christina wondered why on Earth anyone would wait to open a letter like that. "Back. Oh, I made it."

"I got 89. You?"
"99."

Christina gawked, but then grew happy again. "Great! We’re both in! I can’t wait to show my mom when she gets home! Are you going to the Open House?"

"We have to. Yes."

"Cool! Alright, I’ll see you at school Monday!"

"Bye."

Christina’s last day of school, Jr. High graduation, was that Thursday. Fujiwara didn’t make a big deal about it at all, so she didn’t even need to worry about it. The open house was what she wanted to visit.

Moments after she had hung up with Jessica, the phone rang.

"Hey, who’s this?"

"Lisa. You gotta listen to me! I’ve overheard that the Negaverse has a new General in town and’s attacking a high school…Tokugawa, the one you wanted to-"

"I’m in, going to Open House on Saturday. How’d you find out?"

"The other scouts. My friend R-er, Sailor Mars."

"Can’t you say who she is?"

"When she and the others want to tell you guys, they will. Don’t worry. Alright, I’ll talk to you about the fight later. We’re gonna team up with the others this once."

"Okay, bye!"

Christina saw that the clock read 12:19. She’d just taken in all of that in less than half an hour! She left a note on the table for her mom about the letter and put it under the note. She grabbed her jacket, took a house key, and headed out to Lisa’s house. They had too much to talk about now. She guessed that Lisa had also talked to Jessica.

And the dream! Christina had to tell them about the dream! ‘Wait! No.’ She hesitated. She didn’t believe it…the dream, that is. She knew it couldn’t possibly be true. Until she met the Time Guardian in person, she’d never believe any of it. ‘But…but Jessica and Lisa were in my dreams…’ She shook her head and decided that it was just fake. It was just like her to be stuck in such a fantasy world where dragons, princesses, and knights in shining armor really existed. Little did she know how true it all was.
